1. Remember that you aren’t alone
Everybody has been there, that new guy at the gym. It’s perfectly normal to feel like you don’t fit in when you first join a new gym, just remember that you aren’t the only one. Try talking to the guy next to you – they might be feeling the same! In time you can build friendships into your workout experience, making it more enjoyable!
2. Dress the part
Try buying some new gear, an outfit, trainers or just a new T-shirt. If you look good, then you will feel good. Wearing old kit will just make you feel out of shape. New Gym + New Kit = New You!
3. Don’t be afraid to hire a Personal Trainer
There is nothing wrong with hiring someone to show you the ropes, it doesn’t scream ‘Amateur'! Every successful person at the top of their profession, from business to sport has a coach. There is always an opportunity to learn.
Alternatively, if you’re reluctant to hire a trainer, go with an experienced friend, and let that be your education!
4. Focus on yourself
Many people at the gym are so self-absorbed, they don’t even care about anyone else. They are busy focusing on themselves and their own workout – so you should do the same! Put your headphones in, put on some motivational music and get moving!
5. Music Motivation
An uplifting playlist can make the difference between a mediocre workout and an extremely satisfying one. Be prepared and make a playlist prior to arriving at the gym. Create one that will inspire you and keep you going through the toughest of exercises. Going to the gym shouldn’t feel like a chore, make it an enjoyable experience that you can look forward to.
